The story behind the artwork on the merchandise: ‘Belonging’
As every young person walks through the doors at ID. Know Yourself we make sure they feel a sense of belonging, connection and hope. This is done through establishing their cultural identity.
Our mentees last year were asked to have their own channel and paint in what gives them a sense of hope, belonging and culture. Some of the art represented their connection to family, land/water, animals and what visually displayed them as an proud Aboriginal girl or boy.
‘Many of us have come from many different experiences and challenges in our lives. We are all on our journey to becoming identified with our strengths, cultural identity, sense of belonging and purpose at the meeting place of ID. Know Yourself. This represents family and family makes sure no one is left behind or forgotten’.
By purchasing these items you are signifying hope for the next generation and joining our family! Together we will break the cycle of intergenerational trauma and disadvantage for Aboriginal young people in Out of Home Care.
*All proceeds go directly in supporting our young people*
